Description The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. This position is intended to support the ongoing Department growth in the broader thematic areas of Infrastructure Risk Mitigation and Sustainable Urban Systems. Our aim is to grow the Department's expertise in one or more of the following areas: (1) risk characterization for the built environment exposed to natural hazards including wildfires, debris flows and landslides, and/or coastal hazards related to climate change and sea level rise; (2) development of smart, sustainable, and resilient civil engineering systems, with an emphasis on underground construction and/or lifeline infrastructure; and (3) characterization and inspection of the built and natural environments through utilization of large data sets derived from distributed sensors, remote sensing, and big-data harvesting techniques. Applicants for the position must have a demonstrated record of excellence or show exceptional promise for high-quality research, teaching, and professional development. Applications for appointments at any level will be considered (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). Applicants must hold an earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, or a related field, by the date of hire and should be active researchers with promise in developing and maintaining an extramurally supported research program, publishing and disseminating research findings, and serving as leaders at the forefront of their field. As part of their educational responsibilities, the candidate is expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students and teach lecture and/or laboratory courses.
