The Transportation Department has an opportunity for an Associate Civil Engineer who will be assigned to Capital Projects. The incumbent in this position will assign, review and coordinate various design tasks needed to deliver Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) packages between the design team and various technical units and agencies as needed. Additionally, the incumbent will review consultant deliverables and track adherence to project schedules.
The Department desires candidates who possess the skills necessary to prepare plans with Computer Aided Drafting software AND have experience with Roadway Design. In addition, candidates with work experience with Caltrans Standard Plans/Specifications along with SB1-funded roadway projects are highly desired.
he Transportation Department has an opportunity for an Associate Civil Engineer who will be assigned to Land Development. The incumbent in this position will review land development project applications, traffic studies, and other associate technical reports for compliance with laws, regulations, standards and guidelines. The Associate Civil Engineer will also be tasked with preparing comments and conditions of approval for discretionary development projects. Additionally, the incumbent will coordinate development projects with the Planning Department, Plan Checks Division, Survey Division, Fire Department, Capital Projects and the Flood Control District.
The Department desires candidates who have experience with processing land development projects under California Environmental Equality ACT (CEQA) along with familiarity with Plan Check Policies/Guidelines, Traffic Impact Analysis Preparation Guidelines and Riverside County Ordinances. In addition, applicants with experience reviewing traffic studies and modeling, reviewing and interpreting engineering plans, drainage studies and familiarity with water quality criteria are highly desired.
Experience: Two years of professional civil engineering experience including one year of experience in the planning, design, and construction of highways, sanitary landfills, or flood control projects, or review and approval of grading or structural plans for permit issuance or performing water quality control and water resources planning and investigation.
License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Knowledge of: The fundamentals of civil engineering; mathematics and physics as applied to engineering; construction survey, stress analysis, hydraulic design, topographic mapping, analytical mechanics, and strength, properties, and uses of construction materials; accepted practices of grading and structural plan review and approval; general methods and procedures of describing real property.
Ability to: Direct the work of subordinate engineering personnel; design a variety of public works projects with skill and accuracy; make difficult mathematical computations and keep neat and accurate field notes; review and approve grading and structural plans; make accurate drawings and maps, and prepare technical reports; maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
