The Project Engineer or Project Architect will be part of a team of design professionals that works directly with prominent developers, architects, engineers and contractors to offer innovative and economical concrete building solutions for low- to mid-rise buildings. Responsibilities include developing preliminary cost estimates for cast-in-place concrete building systems for both multi-family residential and non-residential applications and comparing them to costs of wood and steel alternatives. Success will be measured on the number of projects converted from wood and steel framing to concrete.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with a small team of design professionals to produce concrete design recommendations for low- to mid-rise buildings.
Determine which concrete systems are best suited for the building type and location.
Produce compelling design proposals for innovative and economical concrete building systems that include schematic structural and envelope design, first cost, energy cost and life cycle cost in order to persuade developers to use concrete instead of wood or steel framing systems.
Identify obstacles to concrete construction (cost, construction schedule, labor pool, etc.) and propose solutions to minimize those obstacles.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Understanding of building design and construction process and methods
Construction cost estimating ability
CAD drawing experience (AutoCAD or Revit)
Dynamic presentation and communication skills
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others
Microsoft Office and Google Suite experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, architecture or construction management or other construction related field
1-2 years experience directly related to commercial building design and/or development
Construction cost estimating experience
Experience with design and/or construction of building systems
Knowledge of building and design codes
Experience with energy analysis a plus
Experience with environmental life cycle analysis a plus
Experience with life cycle costing a plus
Pack and ship heavy printed material and other supplies (50 lbs.)
Position requires some travel (10%).
Work from home office located reasonably close to a major airport in the U.S.
