Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is searching for a Project Geologist or Environmental Scientist to support environmental compliance, investigation and restoration projects in the St. Louis office to join our Construction Remediation Group team in St. Louis, MO. We are looking for self-motivated candidates who are able to work as part of a dynamic project team, can think clearly, has good technical writing skills and is preferably familiar with investigative and sampling methods used commonly in Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) projects.
Key Responsibilities •Field activities include soil borings, groundwater monitoring well installations, collecting soil, groundwater, surface water and sediment samples as well as documenting field activities •Field activities may also include oversight of remediation subcontractors during remediation activities including excavations, pilot studies and remediation system installation •Office activities include analysis and interpretation of hydrogeologic data, soil and water analytical results and preparation of reports •Prepare tables and figures using analytical data and topographic / site maps •Perform statistical analysis of data and work with Excel spreadsheets •Working knowledge of Access and / or AutoCAD and / or GIS and gINT a plus •Perform standard or routine calculations. May input data into and / or run standard or in some cases, advanced computer programs under supervision •Under direct supervision of the project manager or senior staff, represent Amec Foster Wheeler and interact in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignments •Understands and applies safety requirements in the field •Responsible for coordinating with subcontractors (such as analytical laboratories and drillers) while performing office assignments •Participate in proposal preparation (work scope, task-level budgeting, cost estimates), may perform calculations, gather or review information, or prepare standard sections of proposals •Schedule and coordinate field project activities •Manage field communication, scheduled with PM and project team members •Assist with procurement of subcontractors and materials •Supervise, coordinate, and direct the work of technical staff in the preparation of project deliverables •Administer phases of planning and implementation of assigned projects •Monitor and ensure compliance to all Quality Assurance and Health and Safety Procedures •Provide PM with weekly financial reports that will include project spending, percent complete and percent of work that needs to be performed •Plan and coordinate project activities and ensure compliance to all task procedures and policies and oversee the project
Skills / Qualifications •BS in Geology, Hydrogeology or Environment Science •Must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills •8+ years of solid field experience (soil borings, well installations, multi-media sampling) •5+ years report preparation with good technical writing skills •Experience in permitting, compliance and application of environmental regulations to project work •Good data management and general organizational skills •Strong computer skills for database work and proficiency in MS Office •Flexible to work outside normal business hours as required •40-hour HAZWOPER training completed with subsequent annual refreshers •Knowledge of CERCLA and RCRA environmental requirements is a plus •Hands-on knowledge of field equipment •Ability to communicate clearly with on-site contractors, supervisor or project manager regarding work assignments required •May be required to operate pickup truck and / or other motor vehicle(s) •Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment •Must pass drug screening, background check and physical exam •Valid driver's license •Travel to project sites
Physical Demands •Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds •Ability to use hands to operate field equipment •Ability to wear a respirator as required •Work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs and environmental contamination •May be subject to periods of extreme heat and cold and other environmental conditions such as wind as humidity
